BUSHFIRE UPDATE: Tiled Roofs Given All-Clear; Building Guide Now Available
Following an exhaustive testing program, tiled roof systems have been given the all-clear for use in new construction in high-risk bushfire zones.
All new roofs constructed using Australian-made concrete or terracotta tiles are fully compliant with the residential building standard AS 3959-2009. Click to download the complete fire testing report.
The RTAA has issued a technical guide for builders and tilers working in bushfire-prone areas (click to download PDF).
The Roofing Tile Association of Australia is the roof tile industry’s peak organisation, representing the concerns and interests of members across the country, with a particular focus on training (including apprenticeships) and occupational health and safety issues.
The RTAA represents more than 90 per cent of the roof tile industry, including all manufacturers of concrete and terracotta roof tiles - Boral Roofing, Bristile Roofing, CSR Roofing, Harmony Roofing, Alice Roofing - and the vast majority of distributors and independent roof tilers and installers.
Tiled roofs combine superior durability, colourfastness, strength with a long life. They also help reduce the intrusion of external noises, provide protection against radiant heat in a bushfire, have high levels of thermal insulation, and offer more resistance to wind suction than lightweight sheets.
Those are just some of the reasons why tiled roofs are preferred by more home owners and builders across Australia.
